| Focus on Youth |
 |
The aspirations and the endeavours of Singapore's youth will propel us forward; their beliefs and their work form the basis for our future. As such, developing our youth and grooming the next generation is an important national priority.
In recognition of the key role the Ministry has to play in this task, it was renamed the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports in 2004. This signifies the Government's commitment to engage youth and involve them in national affairs.
A slew of initiatives to tap the energy and fervour of young people will be launched in 2005. Many of these initiatives are based on feedback from the Ministry's "Youth: Creating Our Future" consultation exercise.
Youth action and passion are at the heart of the programmes, which will celebrate youth's energy and talent, and support youth community action. The programmes will provide channels for youth to contribute their views on national issues, platforms for youth to contribute to the community and structures to help all our youth realize their potential.
The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) will work with the National Youth Council, youth organisations, other government and non-government agencies as well as youth, to develop and implement these initiatives.
The programmes are in line with MCYS' vision to develop young Singaporeans who are inspired to make a difference, who are engaged in the community and who feel a sense of ownership in Singapore.
