Our programmes and policies cannot achieve the desired outcomes without a corresponding change of society's mindset towards ageing. Singaporeans must have a positive attitude towards ageing and older people. They need to play their roles by planning for each stage of their lives and taking action early.

Since 1999, the Ministry has undertaken a concerted and systematic public education effort to promote positive attitudes towards ageing, and to inculcate a culture of life-long preparation among Singaporeans. There is an Active Ageing Festival organised annually to promote active ageing.

The target audiences are from all sectors of society including the elderly themselves. We have and will continue to collaborate with various government and non-government organisations to shape public attitudes through public and professional forums, talks, media campaigns and production of resource materials on ageing issues.

Council for Third Age

The Council for Third Age has been set up in 2007 to promote ground-up initiatives that encourage seniors to be active and socially engaged. Council has the $20 million Golden Opportunities! (GO!) Fund for interested individuals and organisations. The GO! Fund aims to promote lifelong learning opportunities, healthy lifestyles, volunteerism and intergeneration-bonding programmes for seniors and their extended families.
