The preparation for vocational rehabilitation and employment for persons with disabilities starts
while they are still attending Special Education Schools. Once they
graduate from the schools, they can either engage in open employment
or attend one of the 8 production/ sheltered workshops run by voluntary
welfare organisations. The workshops provide sheltered employment
for people with different forms of disabilities aged 16 years and
above. Production workshops provide employment as well as training
for disabled people who are suited for open employment. Sheltered
workshops cater to those who cannot meet the needs of open employment,
or those who may require more supervision in their work.
For a list of sheltered / productions workshop, please see
Directory of Services for the Disabled.
