Special Education (SPED) Schools
provide education to children with special needs, like intellectual,
physical and/or sensory impairments. Most Special Schools cater to
children between 4 and 18 years of age. Some special schools provide
an Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children, those below
4 years old. Special education for children
with disabilities seeks to develop their academic, cognitive, social,
communication, language and motor skills. It also includes training
in activities of daily living.
Professional services by psychologists,
physiotherapists, occupational, speech and music therapists are
incorporated into the programme.
Special Schools are jointly
funded by the
Ministry of Education and the
National Council of Social Service (NCSS). More information can be obtained at SPED Website at www.ncss.org.sg/sped/
