Adoption is a legal process
by which the rights and responsibilities for a child are given up
by one set of parents and undertaken by another. Adopting a child
is creating a family. It is not just a legal matter, but one which
involves fostering deep human emotional ties
MCYS' role in the adoption
include:

processes and investigates the adopter(s)' eligibility to bring in a foreign born child for adoption proceedings in Singapore;

investigates and assesses the residential status of the child;
|
 |
prepares an undertaking (Security Bond) for the prospective adopter(s) to bear all costs and collects a Security Deposit ranging from $1,000 to $2,000);
|
 |
issues in-principle approval for the adopter(s) to bring the foreign born child to Singapore to commence adoption proceedings;
|
 |
issues a Visa and Dependant's Pass for the foreign born child;
|
 |
the Director of Social Welfare, MCYS, acts as the Guardian-Ad-Litem (temporary guardian for the child) in adoption proceedings;
|
 |
an officer from MCYS will conduct a social investigation and prepare the social investigation report and affidavit (a written statement or an oath);
|
 |
assigns an accredited agency to put up a Home Study Report on the adopter(s) (if requested by foreign adoption agencies).
