Enable A Family Volunteer Scheme

MCYS provides on-going support and monitoring of children who have been abused or neglected by their families. Besides looking into the needs of the children, MCYS also works with their families to help them manage their problems at home.

The Enable A Family (EAF) Volunteer Scheme aims to recruit volunteers to befriend these families as an additional support to improve their day to day functions.

The goals of the EAF Volunteer Scheme are:

 To ensure the safety of children in their families;
 To enable the children to live with their families, instead of being placed with alternative care;
 To encourage and improve the workings of the family so that they are better able to cope with crises; and
 To enrich families by linking them to the available resources in the community.

How can you help

We need dedicated volunteers to:
 Befriend children and young persons; or
 Provide educational support for the children; or
 Teach families basic housekeeping and childcare skills;
 Assist families in utilising community resources such as psychological services, child care services, schools and family service centres; or
 Offer caregivers respite care by taking the children out for a short day outing

Training for EAF Volunteers

All EAF volunteers will go through a series of training courses before their befriending placement with a family. MCYS officers will also guide each EAF volunteer during his / her placement period.

What can you gain from being an EAF volunteer?

Working with children and families is always a challenge. When you make a difference in a child's life and see an improvement in his / her family, the experience enriches and expands your personal growth. It is here that you will discover your potential in reaching out to those in need. The best reward from helping to build strong families is to see the smiling faces of the happy children.
