Family Policy
Marriage and family are personal choices. The Government hopes to enable Singaporeans to make informed life choices, and support the family in its roles and functions.

The 4 key thrusts are:

1) Imbue Singaporeans with pro-family values and encourage family formation and bonding.
A fulfilling family life cannot be taken for granted. Conscious efforts are needed from all members to build a strong and close-knit family.

Public education plays an important role in this area. In addition to annual awareness campaigns such as the National Family Week, MCYS engages our partners in the production of newsletters, videos, pamphlets, handbooks and television programmes.

2) Equip families with knowledge and skills to create and manage quality family life.
To enable families to help themselves, MCYS helps to equip Singaporeans with skills and knowledge on how to cope with the demands of family life and to nurture their family relationships. This is done through a series of family life education programmes. Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs) organise talks, courses and seminars on subjects such as managing family finances, sexual intimacy, and parenting young children. MCYS supports such programmes by providing funding support and resource materials, as well as recruiting and training facilitators.

3) Create a pro-family environment with strong community support for families.
Family services, such as childcare and eldercare, can help lighten care-giving responsibilities. In addition, a work environment with family-friendly work practices and a physical environment with safe and supportive facilities, will together foster a pro-family environment for families.

4) Encourage women's participation and contribution to family and community.
