SDU was set up in 1984 to change the cultural and social mindsets that continue to stand in the way of graduates getting married.

The Unit hopes to achieve the following objectives:
a) To increase singles' awareness of the importance of marriage and family, through public education efforts,
b) To provide dating opportunities for those who desire to marry, and
c) To influence singles' attitudes in their choice of a spouse.

To date, more than 33,000 SDU members have tied the knot, with an average of 1,700 members marrying each year. Still, the Unit continues to reach out to as many as possible.

The Unit offers one-to-one matchmaking programmes like Personalised Introduction Service, Computer Matchmaking or Table 4 Two. For those who prefer their search for their partner to be on a social basis, SDU, through its strategic partners, organises more than 800 activities a year. In particular, Red Box Events Pte Ltd organises exciting and interesting events exclusively for SDU members. These provide excellent opportunities for members to interact with other graduates from all professions and hopefully, meet their Significant Other.
