Helping the Needy

A compassionate society is one which cares for the less fortunate who are in need. Every citizen and his family should be assisted in their effort to attain the means and opportunities for a decent and dignified living. Persons facing hardships are given help to tide them over a difficult period as well as to regain their financial independence. This will enable them to continue to contribute positively to the nation.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced on 19 January 2005 that the government will be setting up a Community Care Fund (ComCare Fund) to fund programmes which help Singaporeans. The ComCare Fund is a government endowment fund, and it will start with a capital sum of $500 million. More information on ComCare programmes is available here.
